Just got back from Chicago.
It was a great show, but....
Paul sounded great. 'Strutter' there seemed to be some notes he wasn't hitting just right, but it was his first song of the night, I'm thinking that could be it. At one point during the show, the stage right mic went out on Paul, when he was doing back up vocals, I'll have to wait for the CD to find out which one.
Gene was great. He did the bell thing during his Blood spitting. It seemed very quick and didn't seem to have the impact when it was introduced in Philly (I think that was the show). The spotlight guy didn't get yelled at either.
Tommy was on fire. I liked hearing 'Shock Me', he played it well, he sang it well, that is all.*
Eric played very solid too, of course this is pretty much the standard for this line-up.
I'm comparing this show to the Cobo first night show, since I saw that one. Like I said Paul was a lot better. Dr. Love was in as well as Shock Me. At least I got something different. The crowd cheered when they mentioned Sonic Boom, but they really didn't seem to be into Modern Day Delilah. Shame. Every song Gene sang, he would say clap your hands or make the motion and the people responded. The Paul Stanley banter was a little different, so that was a bonus.
All and all it was great. Wish I would have got to hear Say Yeah.
*A funny/sad little anecdote. When Tommy was introduced to play Shock Me, a group of four was escorted (it seemed anyway, since an usher was right behind them) well the lady was giving the finger towards the stage. Either she was pissed that they did something to be kicked out and mad at the band, or she was that angry that Tommy was playing Shock Me, or I guess it could have been both. I never seen any of them come back (I was in the first row of the floor between the two floor sections, so there was a walkway right in front of me).
Also wanted to add. I stumbled across Tommy's wife's website (through twitter) and she does this rock/stone jewelry. It looked like Tommy's necklace could have been made by her, that's sweet.
All in all great night.
Sorry for the disjointed review. Like I said, I just got back from Chicago (2 hourish ride) and it is 3AM now. |

Thanks for the review. My show is this upcoming Saturday, so I'll post my thoughts after I've seen. It's my first time seeing them live, so it'll be interesting.
Thanks again! |

So....three words about seeing KISS for the first time:
Oh my God.
Absolutely sensational. Nothing short of an awesome evening. Yoh know, you could go to one of their shows, not know ANY of their songs and still have an awesome time.
Setlist pretty much the same:
(They added "Do You Love Me".)
Deuce
Strutter
Let Me Go Rock & Roll
Hotter Than Hell
Shock Me
Calling Dr. Love
Modern Day Delilah
Cold Gin
Do You Love Me
Say Yeah
100,000 Years
I Love it Loud
Black Diamond
Rock And Roll All Nite
Encore:
Shout It Out Loud
Lick It Up
Love Gun
Detroit Rock City
There were times, looking at the crowd, that I felt that I was at a concert circa 1978...lol...but all ages show, that's for sure.
But there was this one kid sitting in front of me, who had been done up like Paul Stanley and Mom like Peter Criss (Eric Singer), and he was rockin out the whole time, singing and dancing away. My friend got this shot of home and it just proves the music of any kind reaches out to everyone. (Picture below)

Thoroughlly enjoyed my evening, and would do it again. My only regret is not being able to meet Shannon, who was standing on the sideline. |
