Whad'ya know, I was there too. Wink

These were my first shows and they absolutely ROCKED! I was familiar with some of the songs, just was never a huge fan and never saw them live. I am now an official Queensryche fan. Very Happy Met the guys after the show in Orlando (thanks chickie! Very Happy ). They were very nice and down to earth. Took time for autographs and photos.

Sadly, I didn't get to go to QR this time around. The weather was bad.....and we were celebrating my hubby's birthday.
My friend had an extra pass that she was gonna give me as a surprise and we were going to hit up Whip and Ed with PCCP and get Whip to sign my shoe he dropped the beer on last September. However, the M&G was cancelled because the House of Blues wanted to close after the concert. Mad QR M&Gs last into the wee hours. At Geoff's solo concert, we were tossed out....along with GT at 2 am. They cleaned the HoB around us.

I've had many wonderful memories with Queensryche and I do recommend them to anyone. Geoff is one of the nicest guys to chat with....Ed and Whip will make you laugh esp if they have been drinking. Mike Stone is the best! I have to say.....Chris WHO? And Scott....my most favorite drummer ever.

You two are my friends tonight.

what are some Queensryche songs that were popular for them? I'd like to look them up on iTunes or youtube. All I know is "Silent Lucidity". I do like that song, I think the lead singer has an aweome voice, but I've never felt the urge to go buy their albums.

Empire, Jet City Woman, Another Rainy Night......
Take Hold of the Flame, Queen of the Reich.....

Just put in a Queensryche search on You Tube and their vids will come up.

Geoff is an awesome singer....he told one person at a M&G he has a 7 range octave in his singing.

Operation Mindcrime is one of the best rock albums ever. They are great live too. The recent Mindcrim live dvd featuring both Mindcrime albums is excellent.

However they haven't been as good since Chris DeGarmo left.

Some of their guitars on empire remind me of steve clark's style. Maybe that is why i like that album over their other ones.

I bought Sign of the Times a couple weeks before the shows, and as I was listening to it the first time it was like, I know that song, I know that song. LOL

I've always thought Geoff has a great voice, but he really amazed me singing live. My gawd can he hit the notes. Absolutely flawless.

That's something QR fans have known since the beginning. Many people are afraid to go and see QR because of the bands beginning--metal like.
Today, they are as far unattached from heavy metal as you come. They aren't a mainstream band either....nor country. Are they alternative? Not really. There isn't one type of genre you can put them in because they constantly change the music. Progressive---maybe.

The entire band has side projects and I think that is because they all play different styles of music. Stone and Wilton are the metal guys. Geoff is everything from classical on. Scott is alternative--plus he does movies. Ed loves to be in the control room working.

Somehow it all comes together in the end. I think back to a couple years ago....they thought about calling it quits. They thought QR had run it's course. Then they came back with Tribe in 2003 and haven't stopped touring since. Which is sad because new music from them would rule.

That's the constant fight on the QR forum. Rolling Eyes Much like the change of guitarists over here.
In the end, it's all a matter of opinion. My opinion is that QR are better without DeGarmo because I think he's way over rated. If DeGarmo's fans would just go and watch Mike Stone play...I don't think they would put so much into Chris's leaving.
BTW, Chris came back for a couple songs on Tribe-took some new QR photos and then went back to his life as a pilot. Shortly after the Tribe tour ended, QR asked Mike Stone to join.

The Tribe tour was a test for Stone, and he passed it with flying colors. In fact, when I was talking to Mike that first time I met him, I asked him if he was in QR to stay and he said "I hope so." I think the band was watching how the fans took to him.

Stone is an amazing player. I have never seen DeGarmo play live but Stone can hold his own just fine.

Stormy you mentioned Stone having some side projects.. I guess I need to start listening more to his stuff on myspace. I know I have him and the rest of the guys on there.

I have been listening to Ryche since the late 80s and seeing them live takes me back to then. Geoff is an amazing vocalist and never seizes to amaze me everytime I see him in concert. Next time I'll travel out more to see them and KIM your going!

I did see DeGarmo on the Building Empires tour and I saw Kelly Gray perform with QR just before he quit/got fired....whatever happened. *shrugs* I really think that Mike has found a home with them. I love the difference between him and Whip. Whip is so ....can't find the right word.... I love watching Michael play...he's almost to where he could take Phil's place. I get dizzy watching Stone play....he moves his fingers so FAST!

I bought Wilton's SoulBender cd. Boy, is that metal!! The way he likes it. However that singer is pretty good. I have Scott's side band cd--Slave to the System. I really like that. Got Geoff's solo cd and that's a QR-Lite, as fans have said. Far as I know, Ed doesn't play in any other band, just Ryche. However, I heard from an Alice Cooper roadie that Ed is doing something with that roadie. Not sure what! Stone works with a band or 2...WiszdomStone, the shirt that I am wearing in the pix and Speed X. I really enjoy WiszdomStone. Awesome music! From what I've heard of Speed X, it's a speed metal band, hence the name. You've seen how FAST Mike plays. So, it's like that. I'll buy anything from my guys. They've always been nice to me.

As for concerts, we'll see, eh? Neutral I'm hoping for a St. Louis date later this year, but it's doubtful right now.....ah well. I guess my winning tix last year was a good thing.

I love watching guitarists play. I've been playing for some time now and love to see their techniques. Both guys are amazing. The past shows I was in front of Stone and it was great being able to see Whip play up close this time. The FC really paid off this time around.. front row center. Very Happy

I'll have to pick up Whip's stuff then. I love Metal type music. Geesh, I need to make a list of stuff I need to still get.

That's cool.. something later in the year or even next year would be great. My daughter even mentioned going to see them.. have you taken your daughter to see them yet or was it only Lepp and Jovi?

Nope. Haven't taken my daughter to QR and I won't. That's my band and I go without her to them.
BTW, I'm just guessing at a possible date. They don't really like the area much...and usually stay up towards Chicago. I'm not really planning on anything.

Remember Kyler? I heard him tell one of those friends that Eddie Jackson had a side thing going and that Kyler was a part of it. He really didn't get into it much. Somehow Ed with a rubber chicken is not his style....but at the same time, this is the QR member who wrote his credits BACKWARDS on a cd! Neutral Uh....talk about taking forever to read! Maybe I'll send Kyler a MS message....it should be interesting.

***edit****
just got a message from Kyler. He said he's NOT working w/Ed. Sad Drats!! And I'm bugging him for that PASS!! Very Happy

I meant the material they have written since he left the band hasn't been as good imo.

Promised Land is a very underrated album from them too.
